Traditional indigenous cultures have much to share with the counseling field. An enrolled member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe of Idaho, Dr. Cutler spent 38 years living amongst and working with the Lakota, Nakota, and Dakota people of North and South Dakota, and the first 24 years of his life on reservations in Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota. His experiences serve as a foundation for most of the counseling-related work he does currently as a faculty member with the Department of Counselor Education at Boise State University. The presentation will explore Lakota themes regarding lifespan development, personal/ professional/spiritual values, and methods of self care as they related to doing counseling work in all contexts.
Mike Cutler, Ph.D., serves as faculty for Boise State University’s Counselor Education Department. A Native American, he recently moved to Boise from South Dakota. Dr. Cutler brings a unique perspective to cultural issues and personal behaviors.

We will begin to discuss ways to help them more successfully deal with changes at home and with new faces in familiar places.
